Karen began teaching 1979, when no one could imagine having one computer in a classroom. She has taught high school English and Special Education and middle school English/Language Arts in southeast lower Michigan. Karen holds an B. S. in Education (Public Communications, English, and Reading 6-12) and a Masters of Arts in Teaching (Reading and Learning Disabilities K-12). She is certified as a Reading Consultant in Michigan. Her passions are learning, integrating technology into literacy programs, and inspiring the next generation of writers.
Karen presents regularly at conferences and provides professional development workshops for schools. Karen has been using G Suite for Education with her students since 2008 allowing her to share real world examples.
She is a National Writing Project Teacher Consultant for the Eastern Michigan Writing Project and serves on the organizing team for EdCamp EMWP.
Karen can also serve as a Parent Advocate for Special Education Services at IEP and 504 meetings. Being a parent of an ASD son, she understands both the parent and the school's points of view.
Karen provides tutoring in ELA, Reading, Writing, Study Skills and most other subjects including elementary level math.

Karen's son, Chris, is the number cruncher of MacChyver Tech. He handles the statistical analysis. He also tutors middle school and high school mathematics. At the college level, he provides tutoring in undergraduate Calculus I, II, III and Statistics.
